Africa Food Prize

Africa Food Prize is the preeminent award recognizing an outstanding individual or institution that is leading the effort to change the reality of farming in Africa-from a struggle to survive to a business that thrives. The US $100,000 prize celebrates Africans
who are taking control of Africa's agriculture agenda. It puts a spotlight on bold initiatives and technical innovations that can be replicated across the continent to create a new era of food security and economic opportunity for all Africans.

THRiVE PhD and Postdoc Fellowships
Deadline: 27 June 2016
THRiVE is a DELTAS Africa consortium of East African Universities and Research Institutes.
This opportunity is aimed at supporting training and mentoring young scientists from Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda. The PhD fellowships of up to 4 years will be undertaken at one of the consortium universities. Postdoctoral fellowships are for up to two years.

Elevator Pitch: Future of Micronutient Innovation
Deadline: 30 June 2016

Sight and Life, a nutrition think tank, is hosting an elevator pitch contest to spur entrepreneurship. Graduate and post-graduate students are asked to pitch a creative approach to addressing micronutrient deficiencies, including product, service, or technological solutions. Finalists will be awarded a trip to Cancun, Mexico, in October for the Micronutrient Forum 2016. The top three winners will receive a case award of up to US$2000.

UNESCO-IHE MSc fellowships and Short Course Fellowships
Deadline: 1 July 2016

UNESCO-IHE will provide 23 key water professionals with MSc level education on relevant topics for Small Island Developing States. The 18 month MSc programmes include 12-month taught education in Delft, the Netherlands and 6-month field based research, to be conducted on specific problems in the home country of the participant. Furthermore, UNESCO-IHE will provide 55 water professionals and decision makers  with specific expertise on relevant topics, by enabling them to enrol in UNESCO-IHE Short Courses that start in 2016 and 2017.

Conservation, Food & Health Foundation Grant
Deadline: 1 July 2016

The Conservation, Food and Health Foundation seeks to promote the conservation of natural resources, improve the production and distribution of food, and improve health in the developing world. The foundation helps build capacity within developing countries in its three areas of interest with grants that support research or projects that solve specific problems in the areas of conservation, food, and health. The average grant amount is $20000.

Lung Cancer Research Foundation Grant

The Lung Cancer Research Foundation's grant program provides funding for innovative research focused on the prevention, diagnosis, treatment and cure of lung cancer. The Foundation encourages applications for projects investigating a wide variety of research topics, including:

  • Prevention and screening for early detection
  • Identification of new biomarkers and the development of targeted therapies
  • The development of next-generation chemotherapeutic agents
  • Supportive measures for people with lung cancer and their families
  • Quality of care and outcomes research

Cassava Innovation Challenge
Deadline: 8 July 2016

The Rockefeller Foundation Cassava Innovation Challenge is granting up to $1 million dollars to innovators with novel solutions that tackle food loss and spoilage in the cassava value chain. These could include increasing access to existing cassava varieties, improving
preservation between harvesting  and processing, and improvements in processing.

Global Infectious Disease Research Training Program
Deadline: 29 July 2016

The National Institutes of Health encourages applications for the Global Infectious Disease Research Training Program from collaborations between U.S. and low- and middle-income country (LMIC) institutions. The application should propose a research training program that will strengthen  the capacity of an LMIC institution to conduct infectious disease research. The  grant will support research-training programs that focus on major endemic or life-threatening emerging infectious diseases, neglected tropical diseases, infections that frequently occur as co-infections in HIV-infected individuals or infections associated with non-communicable disease conditions of public health importance in LMICs.
