Areas of research activity involve the seismicity and tectonics and tectonics of intraplate East Africa, and seismic hazard assessment.
Specific Research topics: include studies of earthquake focal mechanisms, stress regime and geological causes of earthquakes in Kenya rift, seismic wave propagation in Kenya, source spectra for intraplate earthquakes and probabilistic seismic hazard assessment.
Current research project: include a study of the modes of faulting in the Kenya rift, development of an energy-based motion prediction model for incorportation into probabilistically defined scenario earthquakes for design ground motion selection. Part of the project proposal involves a mapping study of potential site response in the major Urban centers in Kenya were by remote sensing imaging is incorporated. The GIS data organization and presentation tool is applied.
