The 3rd African Geosciences Student Conference (AGSC) will be held on 16-19 June 2015 in Nairobi, Kenya.  The conference, focused on diversifying geosciences in Africa will be held at the African Institute for Capacity Development at Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (JKUAT).

The AGSC will consist of many educational and exciting activities meant to improve the attendee's geoscience knowledge and team building. These activities will include the African Challenge Bowl, Distinguished Lecturers, student oral presentations, and technical presentations on near surface geophysics, oil and gas geosciences, and renewable and geothermal energy.

Global interest in Africa has increased with recent discoveries of natural resources such as oil and gas in Eastern Africa and subsequent discoveries of large amounts of gas in Tanzania and Mozambique. As a result, innovative ideas combined with more capacity, skills and knowledge of geoscientists is required to harness these resources.

The AGSC also hopes to create a platform to discuss these growth opportunities and provide students and young professionals the moment to showcase their work and results. Students will be exposed to the broad range of opportunities in the geosciences and be challenged to start solving the continent's problems using the knowledge and skills they have acquired in their diversified areas of geosciences.

The conference will also give sponsors and partners the opportunity to reach a network of professionals working in a range of geosciences positions: experienced academia and industry representatives, potential business partners, and, of course, students.

The AGSC is a student organized event of the Society of Exploration Geophysics (SEG) that occurs every year.  The AGSC invites potential sponsors to participate in the 3rd AGSC by supporting various specific events while also helping to build the capacity of young professional in geosciences and allied sciences for tomorrow.
